In 2004, then-Mayor Gavin Newsom and the San Francisco Department of Public Health created Project Homeless Connect (PHC) as a way to bring necessary services to people experiencing homelessness in San Francisco.
The approach allows for a one stop shop resource and services outlet to occur. A person looking for answers doesn't need to drive or bus all over town chasing referrals hopping from appointment to appointment. They can get a lot done in a few hours.
Since its conception, Project Homeless Connect has continued to occur in many places across the country. 2020 marks the eleventh year of Clallam County providing a connection event. This year we are evolving away from title of Project Homeless Connect in an effort to depict that the program is not limited to those who are unhoused. Instead, anyone experiencing poverty, housing insecurity, or are otherwise facing barriers in accessing services that are essential for one's livelihood are invited to the annual event to form community connections. Language has power, and we hope to continue to move towards a model that destigmatizes experiences and recenters community and connection.
Moving forward our annual program will be called Community Resource Connections.
